The Salt manifesto

Championing the indies and making cool stuff happen

Championing the indies and making cool stuff happen

We stand for community, authenticity and real creativity crafted by humans.

Through our award-winning design and writing, we champion the independent businesses that make life better. Whether they are serving on-point speciality coffee, delivering exceptional hospitality experiences at beautiful hotels and restaurants, protecting the planet or weaving art through everything they do.

‘Community, authenticity and real creativity crafted by humans’

We believe in hooting the horn for indie businesses because they’re the lifeblood of our communities. And they need championing because they’re under immense pressure as they try to compete with large corporations that operate under a different set of rules.

We consider ourselves warriors, fighting with the power of words and pictures for the independents, while looking after each other, building communities and making cool stuff happen.

Build-a-bear Storytelling

What Build a Bear taught me about storytelling

A few years ago, my son’s infant school took his class to the Build-A-Bear Workshop. There was some "educational" reason for the trip, but at the time I thought this was either a piece of marketing genius by Build a Bear or a massive lack of foresight by his teachers
