Army Cadets

Publications that inspire young people to get involved

We’ve worked closely with the Army Cadets comms team at the Ministry of Defence since 2018, helping them communicate messages to all corners of their youth organisation – and beyond – through publications and campaigns.

During that time, we’ve created regular magazines, training manuals, yearbooks, advertising campaign materials and more, which included keeping cadets buoyed up and engaged through digital publications during the Covid lockdowns.

Discover the Army Cadets publication

Our latest project is Discover the Army Cadets, a printed publication which provides would-be cadets and adult volunteers and the wider community with an overview of the inspirational youth organisation .

The features inside run the gamut from tales of cadets’ expeditions in remote corners of the world to interviews with national ambassadors Jordan Wylie and Sally Orange. They also reveal how being in the Army Cadets has provided its members with new skills, confidence, friendship and opportunities, and details the studies that demonstrate improved life opportunities for young people as a result of being cadets. Army Cadets Magazine

Through original features, news, interviews and fresh content, the 52-page quarterly magazine showcases the opportunities offered by the UK youth organisation to youngsters aged 12-18.

Each magazine started as a conversation with the Army Cadets communications team to discover the topics, activities and messaging they want to highlight. Our team of inhouse writers then turn this into engaging and stimulating content to inspire young people. We edit, proof, design and print the magazine, as well as producing a digital version.

‘Finalist for Best Membership Publication in the PPA Awards’

The magazine’s design dovetails with the brand’s existing guidelines and specialised subject matter making it a trusted channel of communication for the organisation, helping it connect to the 88,000 cadets that make up its membership, as well as its adult volunteers.

Our initial relaunch of the magazine in 2018 resulted in it being a finalist for Best Membership Publication in the PPA Awards. Then, in March 2024, the design and content were refreshed again, turning it from a 32-page bi-monthly publication into a 52-page seasonally themed compendium of inspirational features and news stories.

Other publications and campaigns

We’ve also published a few 64-page Year In Review publications: annual summaries primarily aimed at supporters, stakeholders and policy makers. Easy-to-digest illustrations and concise features encapsulate the value that Army Cadets offers young people and the wider community.

We’ve also produced advertising campaigns for the Army Cadets and published four volumes of the Army Cadet Yearbook: chunky A4-sized softbacks – with soft-touch cover and spot lamination for extra zing – crammed full of inspiring, adventurous and useful content.
