Going online in lockdown

Ever wondered what you could learn from climbing the West Ridge of Everest, what you should do if you get caught in a rip current, or how food can affect your mood? These are just three of the varied features to appear in the first digi edition of Army Cadet Magazine.

The interactive issue, which is full of links, videos and podcasts, also includes an interview with the Army Cadets’ National Honorary Colonel Lorraine Kelly; inventive ways to stay lively in lockdown; and investigates how cadets are helping in the battle against Covid-19 (spoiler: it includes making PPE and breathing equipment, and setting up hot drinks stations for NHS workers).

It’s the first magazine Salt Media has made for the Cadets and it will be followed by digi editions in May and June, as well as a printed edition in the summer.

Our brief was to reinvent the previous magazine and create an informative and entertaining read for both cadets and adult volunteers. With everyone being on lockdown, it’s also turned into an important additional tool by which the Cadets communications team can stay in touch with the 66,000 cadets and adult volunteers in the UK.
